TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University right-hander Jake Barrett has been named to the watch list for NCBWA Stopper of the Year, which is an honor given to the top reliever in NCAA Div. 1 baseball, the NCBWA announced on Thursday.

Barrett, a junior from Mesa, Ariz., has collected six saves this season in a team-leading 19 appearances. His 19 games finished are tied for the top mark in the Pac-12. He has 27 strikeouts this season to go with only five walks, and has allowed just three earned runs on 10 hits in 20 1/3 innings. Barrett was named to the Baseball America preseason second-team prior to this season.

Barrett is one of four Pac-12 relievers to be named to the midseason watch list, joining Oregon State junior Tony Bryant, UCLA junior Scott Griggs and Oregon sophomore Jimmie Sherfy.

Nominations for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award were made by baseball sports information/media relation contacts and more than 90 nominations were received. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Division I national saves leader and four other relief pitching standouts will be selected as finalists and released Wednesday, June 6, prior to the start of NCAA Super Regional tournament competition.

The NCBWA's All-America Committee will select the winner, with this year's recipient to be announced during the 2012 College World Series.
