Pac-12 Release

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Arizona State senior first baseman Abe Ruiz has been named the Pac-12 Baseball Player of the Week for Feb. 13-19, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Tuesday.

Ruiz was instrumental in leading the Sun Devils to a season-opening series sweep of Western Michigan over the weekend. His seven runs and six RBI contributed to ASU outscoring WMU 40-2 over 27 innings in the series. In the first game of the season, he hit two homers and drove in six runs.

Ruiz is tops in the Pac-12 in slugging percentage at 1.400, and is tied for the lead in total bases with 14 and runs scored with seven. This is Ruiz's first career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor and the Conference-leading 100th all-time selection for Arizona State.

Fans can see Ruiz in action this weekend as the Sun Devils take on UC Riverside Friday at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Friday's game will be webcast live on Fox Sports Arizona.
