FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Junior diver Joona Puhakka defends his Pac-10 title in the 1-meter springboard event while the Arizona State University women's swimming team is in fourth place after the first day of competition at the Pac-10 Championships held at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center. The Sun Devils scored 102 points in the two events contested on Wednesday.

Puhakka became a three-time Pac-10 champion in the 1-meter springboard event with a score of 387.05. He solidifies himself into the Pac-10 record book as he became the third Pac-10 diver to ever win the 1-meter on three occasions and the first since 1994. He is the 2003 national champion in the 1-meter event.

Arizona State finished fourth overall in the 200 medley relay with the team of Erin Baldinger, Ágnes Kovács, Caitlin Andrew and Laura Ullrich with an NCAA consideration time and season-best of 1:40.90. The women followed up in the 800 freestyle relay with the team of Szigeti, Sandra Steffensen, Amanda Gillespie and Sally Brown swimming into fifth-place with a NCAA consideration time of 7:15.43.

The four-day short-course yards meet and diving action continues Thursday-Saturday.
