Women's Swimming and Diving Earns Tie Against USC

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Arizona State University swimming and diving teams took on USC Saturday afternoon at the McDonald's Swim Stadium where the women finished in a rare tie, 150-150, while the men fell to the Trojans after a two-day meet.

Starting off the afternoon for the Sun Devil women was Sarah A Fischer and Kathryn Hennessy who claimed the top two spots in the 1650 freestyle event respectively. Fischer touched the wall first for ASU's first victory of the day in 16:47.30 with Hennessy finishing slightly behind in 16:49.49.

Caitlin Andrew claimed her first of two individual victories in the 100 backstroke as she edged out teammate Erin Baldinger to take top honor. Andrew also took first-place in the 100 butterfly as she beat the field with at a time of 55.45.

Heidi Schmidt remained true to form in the 100 breaststroke claiming top honors in 1:02.94 while Florencia Szigeti touched the wall first in the 100 freestyle (50.96) and Sally Brown took first-place in the 200 IM (2:05.13).

The Sun Devil men fell to the Trojans after the second day of a two-day competition. Notable finishes for the men include second-place finishes by Lucas Azevedo in the 1650 freestyle (15:32.67), Emerson Ward in the 100 breaststroke (56.92), David Kolozar in the 200 butterfly (1:48.94) and the 400 freestyle relay team of Jeff Barrett, Pat Fleming, Kolozar and Tom Hickman (3:06.46).

The ASU men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action at the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas, Dec. 2-4.
