TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State sophomore second baseman Zack MacPhee has been named a semifinalist for the 2010 Golden Spikes Award, USA Baseball announced today. The award is presented annually to the top player in college baseball.

MacPhee (Phoenix, Ariz.) is hitting .381 with eight home runs and a team-leading 59 runs batted in. He has also tripled 14 times, setting a new school record. The previous record of 13 was set by 2010 College Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee Alan Bannister in 1971. MacPhee is slugging a team leading .683, has drawn 39 walks and also stolen 18 bases.

The 30 semifinalists will be pared down to five finalists. The 2010 GSA will be awarded live at MLB's All-Star FanFest in Anaheim on Tuesday, July 13. This marks the fourth straight year Arizona State has had a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award.
