TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State University baseball players Jon Switzer and Casey Myers were both named to the 2001 Baseball America Preseason All-America team when it was announced Thursday in Durham, N.C.

Switzer and Myers, who were also honored by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper as preseason All-Americans, were named third team All-Americans. Scouting directors of major league clubs voted on the team and made their selections based on performance, talent and major league potential. Every draft-eligible member of the 2000 preseason All-America team was selected in the first four rounds of the 2000 draft.

Myers (Case Grande) had an amazing year in 2000 by hitting .412 with 97 RBI and 18 home runs while earning numerous All-American awards. The catcher returns for his senior year in Tempe after recording one of the most productive offensive years in ASU baseball history. The senior was also named the National Defensive Player of the Year in 2000 and was the Academic All-American of the Year. Myers was also a first-team preseason All-American as announced by the NCBWA.

Switzer (Houston, Texas) was a third-team All-American a year ago after going 11-3 with a 3.89 ERA. The junior southpaw is slated as the opening day starter for the Devils and is looking to capitalize after a successful summer with Team USA where he went 1-0 with a 2.41 ERA.

Arizona State has already began practice in preparation for the 2001 season and will open the new millennium on Jan. 26 with a three-game series by hosting Texas-Arlington at Packard Stadium.
