TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State University senior LHP Drew Friedberg has been named to the Jewish Sports Review's 2001 College Baseball All-America Team after leading the Sun Devils with a 2.04 ERA and a 4-2 record as a relief pitcher this past year. Friedberg, who was drafted in the sixth round of the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates, is currently playing with the Single-A Hickory Crawdads in the Carolina League.

Friedberg, a four-year letterwinner under Sun Devil head coach Pat Murphy, capped a solid career at Arizona State with his 2001 performance. Allowing only 40 hits in 53.1 innings out of the bullpen, Friedberg limited opposing hitters to a .206 batting average and struck out 55 while walking only 13. In four years in the Maroon and Gold, the Middleton, Wisc., native was 8-3 with a 3.69 ERA in 71 career appearances.

After starting his professional career with Williamsport in the short-season Single-A New York-Penn League, he was promoted to Hickory where he is currently 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in 11 appearances. Friedberg did not allow an earned run in four relief appearances with Williamsport to open his professional career.
