ATHENS- Agnes Kovacs, the reigning Olympic gold medalist in the 200m breaststroke, finished fifth in the event semifinal Wednesday, earning her a spot in the final Thursday and a chance to win her second Olympic medal. Kovacs, who is competing in her third Olympics for Hungary, won the gold medal in the 200m breaststroke in Sydney (2000).

Kovacs finished third in the first heat of the 200m breaststroke semifinals with a time of 2:26.63, qualifying her for a chance to defend her crown.  She goes into the final as the reigning Olympic gold medalist and the Olympic record holder (2:24.03), which she set in her gold medal performance in the 2000 Games.
