Dec. 3, 2009

The Arizona State swimming heads to Missouri for the Mizzou Invitational. The all-day event begins on Friday Dec. 4 and will conclude on Sunday. The invitational is set up in a championship format with the preliminary races occurring in the morning and the finals takings place at night.

Quite the Chap
Sophomore Xavier Mohammed has made quite an impact this season. The Londoner swam in only one race last season, the Pac-10 Championships, and is this season's leading point-earner for the men's team. A utility swimmer, Mohammed has swam in eight different individual events already this season. Against national powerhouse USC, Mohammed took first in the 200 fly, 200 back and 200 IM. For his efforts, he was tabbed ASU Male Athlete of the Week.

Freewheeling Freshmen
Freshmen Paige Schultz and Shannon Landgrebe have had no problems adjusting to the collegiate student-athlete lifestyle. Landgrebe earned an NCAA consideration time in the 200 free against USC and picked up a win in the 100 free at the same meet. Against UCLA, the Palm Springs area native took first in the 100 and 200 free. Schultz has already earned wins in the 500 free, 200 free and 100 free during meets this season.

Breaststroke's Best
The duo of Jordyn Green and Rebecca Edjervik look to be two of the top breaststroke specialists this season. Green, who's strength is in the 200 breast, earned an NCAA consideration time in the 200 breast against UCLA and USC. Edjervik, who excels in the sprint-version of the stroke, also clocked in NCAA times in the 100 breast.

Next Up:
The women will host Northern Arizona and New Mexico State on December 19th for their final event of 2009.
