AUSTIN, Texas -- The 11th-ranked Arizona State men's swimming and diving squad sits in 5th place after the first day of competition at the Texas Invitational at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center. Freshman diver Joona Puhakka continues his impressive undefeated run and came away with a first-place finish in the 1-meter diving finals. Puhakka has won every event he has entered as a Sun Devil. Thomas McCrummen finished third (295.40) and freshman Brant Bingham finished 10th (222.25).

In his second meet since his return to the squad, sprint freestyler Bobby Zaabadich earned a second-place finish in the 50 free (20.01) for an NCAA "B" time and the fastest time by a Sun Devil this year. Nick Brunelli finished close behind in fourth (20.11) and also recorded NCAA consideration. Wiley Wallace finished in tenth (20.38) and missed the qualifying standard time by five-hundredths of a second.

Ace Tate (49.44) and David Kolozar (49.88) recorded season bests in the 100 fly, while Christian Harcsas clocked a season best in the 200 IM (1:50.30) by over three seconds. The 200 free relay (1:20.03) squad recorded their first NCAA "B" time of the year on their way to a second-place finish.
