TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University junior right-hander Mike Leake has been named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season, the conference announced today. Leake becomes the fourth pitcher to receive the award twice, and the first to win in back-to-back years.

Leake (Fallbrook, Calif.) is 14-1 with a 1.24 ERA and 128 strikeouts this season, and he leads the Pac-10 in wins, ERA, strikeouts and innings pitched (115.2). In nine starts in Pac-10 play, Leake went 9-0 with six complete games, including the first two complete game shutouts of his career. He has 38 career wins to this point, tied with College Baseball Hall of Famer Floyd Bannister for the fourth most victories in school history.

On Monday, Leake was named the Academic All-American of the Year, and he was recently selected as one of five finalists for the national Pitcher of the Year Award.

It is the fourth time a Sun Devil has won the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year, as Leake's two honors join Marc Barcelo (1993) and Noah Peery (1994).
