TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University will kick off the 2007 baseball season with the annual Alumni Weekend, beginning this Friday with the Alumni Golf Tournament. The Annual Alumni game and Open House will take place on Saturday at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. Fans interested in purchasing season tickets will have the opportunity to Select-a-Seat at the game. Admission to Saturday's festivities is free.
Gates open up at 11:30 a.m. for an autograph session with the entire 2007 team. A home run derby will take place at 12:30 p.m. At 1 p.m., a special presentation will take place on the field as ASU's first varsity head coach, Bobby Winkles will be presented his College Baseball Hall of Fame ring. Winkles and former Devil Bob Horner were members of the inaugural class inducted into the Hall of Fame last July. Following the presentation, the game will begin as fans will get their first opportunity to see the 2007 Sun Devils in action.
Recent and past alumni scheduled to appear include former and current major leaguers Sal Bando (1963-65), Eddie Bane (1971-73), Alan Bannister (1970-72), Mike Benjamin (1986-87), Hubie Brooks (1977-78), Jeff Duncan (1999-2000), Mike Esposito (2000-02), Andre Ethier (2002-03), Darrell Jackson (1974-77), Blas Minor (1987-88), Dustin Pedroia (2002-04), Lenny Randle (1968-70) and Kevin Romine (1981-82). Other notable alumni schedule to be in attendance includes 2005 College World Series heroes Jeff Larish, Tuffy Gosewisch and Erik Averill, and the #1 prospect in the Oakland A's system, Travis Buck.
