OFF TO TUCSON
The Sun Devil men's hoops team (20-10; 9-8) heads to Tucson Saturday to finish its regular season with a 2:30 tip vs. Arizona on FOX Sports Net. The Sun Devils are 5-4 against the other top six teams in the league, with two wins over Colorado and single wins over UCLA (1-1), USC (1-1) and California (1-0). ASU has notched its fourth 20-win season under Coach Sendek in his seven years, something that ASU did just three times in the prior 25 seasons to his arrival in spring of 2006.
Pac-12 has Most Improved Player Award: Carrick 50% FGs after shooting .411 first 2 seasons. 2.8 rpg in first 2 seasons but 8.4 this season-- ASU Men's Basketball (@SunDevilHoops) March 5, 2013
REMINDER JUST HOW MUCH CARRICK HAS IMPROVED
Last season, Carrick Felix had zero double-doubles. This year, he leads the league with 12 on the year and in Pac-12 games with nine...in Pac-12 games he is only player in league averaging 9.1 rebounds and 13.5 points...in overall games he is the only player at 14.0 ppg. and 8.2 rpg...he is shooting .500 from the field this year after shooting .411 in his first two seasons...he averaged 2.8 rebounds in his first two seasons but is at 8.4 this season...he shot .284 from the three-point stripe his first two years but is at .353 this season.
CLOSE GAMES STAT
Eleven of ASU's 17 Pac-12 games have been two-possession games (six points or less)....in 17 Pac-12 games, the scoring margin is exactly one point per game in favor of ASU as the Sun Devils average 67.2 points per game and the opponents 66.2...here is an every crazier one...eight Pac-12 road games, opponents have 543 points, ASU has 540...ASU's eight Pac-10 road games have had margins of one point (twice), five points (twice), four points (twice) and three points (once) and a "blowout" 10-point win at Oregon State.
HE LIKES HOTELS
Be hard to find a better Pac-12 road player than Jahii Carson, as he is averaging 21.5 points in 38.5 minutes and is shooting .522 (70-of-134) from the floor and has six 20-point games in eight Pac-12 roadies. Crazy numbers for Jahii in the second half only of Pac-12 road games are 13.3 points, 40-of-71 from the floor (.563), 19-of-25 (.760) from the free throw line and 7-of-12 (.583) from three.
Sun Devil Jahii Carson has 151 assists, as only 10 Pac-12 freshmen have notched more. The list is below, and none of them averaged more than the 13.5 points per game Mike Bibby did in 1996-97...with three more assists, he will pass Jordan Farmer for tenth on the list and his 154 assists will be the most by a Pac-12 freshmen since Jason Garner had 162 in 1999-2000...his 151 assists is tenth on the Sun Devil season list and a freshman record. Next up on Sun Devil list is Bobby Thompson (152 in 1984-85), Lynn Collins (156 in 1990-91) and Derek Glasser (158 in 2009-10 and 162 in 2008-09).

11. 151, Jahii Carson, Arizona State, 2012-13; 5.0 apg./17.8 ppg.
NOTE ON JAHII'S NUMBERS
Jahii Carson is averaging 17º.8 points and 5.0 assists through 30 games this year. Only one freshman in the past sixteen years has averaged 17 points and five assists, as Ben Woodside produced those digits in 2005-06 for North Dakota State (17.5 points and 5.1 assists). Previous to Woodside, the last freshmen to notch those digits was Shaheen Holloway of Seton Hall back in 1996-97, when he finished at 17.3 points per game and 6.3 assists.
JAHII A FINALIST
Jahii Carson has been named one of eight finalists for the Integris Wayman Tisdale Freshman of Year Award. He is joined by Anthony Bennett (UNLV), Garry Harris (Michigan State), Ben McLemore (Kansas), Shabazz Muhammad (UCLA), Nerlens Noel (Kentucky), Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State) and Rasheed Sulaimon (Duke).
ASU has a school-record 189 blocks in 30 games (6.3 per game) which is sixth in the nation. UCLA holds the Pac-12 record for blocks with 199 in 2010-11. In Coach Sendek's first six seasons (197 games) at ASU, the Sun Devils had nine blocks four times. It has had at least nine blocks nine times this season. An overlooked block statistic for junior Jordan Bachynski is keeping it in play. Of his 110 blocks, 68 have resulted in possession for ASU. He has 171 career blocks and the Sun Devil career record is 191, held by Mario Bennett from 1991-95. He needs just six blocks to set the Pac-12 season record, and the top three spots on that chart are Sun Devils.
PAC-12 SINGLE SEASON BLOCKED SHOTS LEADERS

2. 113 - Rodger Farrington, Arizona State, 1996-97
3. 110 - Jordan Bachynski, Arizona State, 2012-13
Carrick Felix has been solid in the past 12 games with seven double-doubles and just 15 turnovers in 445 (37.1 per game) minutes. He is averaging 13.1 points and 9.0 rebounds in that time and has 17 steals. He has nine double-doubles in Pac-12 play and 12 overall both of which are tied for the league lead.

DON'T WANT TO FORGET THIS
In ASU's Feb. 2 96-92 loss at Washington, Jahii Carson gave the Huskies 32 points, tied for fourth-most by a freshmen in a Pac-12 road game. Only O.J. Mayo (twice) and Roberto Nelson of Oregon State have had more. Jahii had 22 points in the second half (8-of-14 from floor) with three assists, two steals and no turnovers and his stats in the final 5:01 were ridiculous: 12 points, two assists, one steal and perfect in two three-pointers and four free throws and he had his first dunk.

After the Feb. 16 63-62 win at Colorado and the 57-56 loss at USC on March 2, ASU is now 6-6 in one-point games under Coach Sendek, including a 2-1 mark this year as it also beat Utah 55-54 in overtime on Jan. 2. ASU is 3-1 in overtime games this year and 9-5 under Coach Sendek in his seven seasons.
5 DAYS BEFORE GAME
Including a 3-1 mark this year, the Sun Devils are 19-9 (.679) in the past six years when Herb Sendek and his staff have at least five full days in between games, and seven of the wins have been against teams that would make the NCAA Tournament in that season. Last year's notable was an 87-80 win over NCAA-bubble worthy Arizona in the regular season finale on March 4. Wins in 2009-10 included MWC Tournament champion San Diego State (five-game win streak at the time), a home win over Pac-10 Tournament champ and No. 24 Washington and a win at Arizona. In 2008-09 the five-day layoff wins included ASU's first NCAA Tournament win since 2003 (over Temple), a win over Arizona (entered the game on seven-game win streak) and a neutral site win over a 10-0 BYU team that had a guy named Jimmer as a sophomore. In 2007-08, the wins included ASU's first win in Tucson in 13 seasons, an overtime win at California in which ASU was playing as a ranked team for the first time in 13 seasons and a 22-point win over #17 Xavier in December of 2007 that is ASU's largest victory margin over a ranked opponent.
Coach Sendek is 7-7 vs. the Wildcats, including a 3-3 mark in Tucson and 3-4 in Tempe...UA has won 29 of the past 37, ASU has won seven of the past 12...ASU swept UA in the regular season for the second straight time in 2008-09 and then topped the Wildcats in the Pac-10 Tournament for a five-game win streak for the first time since a nine-game streak from 1979-83 prior to the 77-58 loss in Tempe on Jan. 23, 2010...prior to the five-game Sun Devil streak, UA had won 24 of 25 over the Sun Devils, with two 12-game Wildcat win streaks sandwiched around a Jan. 23, 2002, Sun Devil win in Tempe...in its seven wins over UA under Herb Sendek ASU has trailed at the half in five of the games...ASU had won three straight in Tucson prior to an 80-69 defeat on Jan. 15, 2011...ASU won four games over Arizona in Tempe in a 21-year period (4-17 from 1986-87 through 2006-07). It has won three in the series in Tempe in the past five years.

Gilling also had 18 points at UCLA on Feb. 27 (including six three-pointers), 18 points at Texas Tech on Dec. 22 and 14 at OSU on Jan. 10 and vs. Coppin State on Dec. 29. He has three double-doubles with 13/11/6 vs. USC on Jan. 24, 12/10 against CU on Jan. 6 and 13/15 vs. Florida A&M on Nov. 18. He leads the Pac-12 at 2.3 three-pointers made per game (69 in 30 games).

He did not commit a turnover in the 44-minute overtime 98-93 track meet vs. USC on Jan. 24, in the road win at WSU on Jan. 31, in the 40-minute effort vs. Stanford on Feb. 9 or in the grinder OT win at Colorado on Feb. 16. He earned his third Pac-12 Player of the Week award following the UCLA/USC home sweep and has nine double-doubles in 17 Pac-12 games, the most in the league. Twice he has posted a 20-point/10 rebound effort, with 23/11 vs. Washington State on Feb. 20 and 23/11 vs. UCLA on Jan. 26.
