TEMPE, Ariz.- Arizona State University wide receiver Creig Spann has been granted an extension for intercollegiate eligibility, the NCAA and ASU announced Wednesday. Spann will use that year as a senior in 1998.

Spann, a senior from Phoenix, caught 11 passes for 168 yards and one touchdown last year. His touchdown was a 67-yard scoring strike from Ryan Kealy in ASU's win at California. For his career, Spann has 14 receptions for 181 yards and one touchdown.

Spann, who played in all 11 games for ASU last season, came to ASU in 1996 from Phoenix College. The extension allows Spann to reclaim a medical hardship year for 1996 in which he played only two games due to a season-ending knee injury suffered against North Texas.

The 6-0, 183-pound Spann is a 1993 graduate of South Mountain High School.
