GOLD GAME: ASU Host U of A in Senior Day

The Arizona State men and women's swimming and diving teams will host in-state rival Arizona this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. Saturday's meet is the final dual of the season before the Pac-10 Championships.

Senior Salute:
Saturday's meet marks the final home meet for three male swimmers and five female swimmers. Here is a look at the success they have achieved at ASU:
Women:
Caitlin Andrew
*Team Captain
*Holds individual school records in the 50 free (22.39), 100 free (48.50), 100 back (53.68), 200 back (1:56.77) and 100 fly (52.02)
*Member of the ASU record-holding 200 free (1:29.87), 400 free (3:15.96) and 200 medley relay teams
*11 time All-American
*Two Time First Team Pac-10 All-Academic Selection (2006, 2007)
*Two Time Pac-10 Swimmer of the Month Selection (December 2004, December 2007)

Lindsey Brown
*Member of the ASU record holding 200 free (1:29.87) and 400 (3:15.96) free relay teams
*Earned All-American status in the 200 free relay
*Holds ASU's 10th fastest 50 free time and eighth fastest 100 free time
*Earned Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention honors

Lindsey Russenberger
*Competed two seasons with the Sun Devils after transferring from Wyoming
*Posted personal best in the 200 IM (2:04.53), 100 breast (1:03.17) and 200 breast (2:17.30)
*Has had the fastest 200 breast time for the Sun Devils this season

Ellis Schieman
*Competed for the Sun Devils for four years
*Had the team's fastest 200 fly time for her sophomore and junior years
*Holds ASU's 10th fastest 200 fly time
*Personal Best: 100 free (51.63), 200 free (1:49.12), 500 free (4:50.85), 1000 free (10:18.35), 100 fly (55.85), 200 fly (2:01.02)

Emlynn Tursick
*Competed for the Sun Devils for four years
*Competed primarily in the 100 and 200 back and 500 free
*Personal Best: 100 back (57.43), 200 back (2:01.34), 500 free (4:57.56)

Men:

*Sixth in the 100 fly on ASU's all-time list with a time of 47.97
*Personal Best: 100 fly (47.97), 200 fly (1:50.15), 200 IM (1:52.13) and 100 breast (56.66)

Steve Neuwert
*Team Captain
*Competed for the Sun Devils for two years
*Personal Best: 50 free (19.81) and 100 free (43.99)

CJ Nuess
*Two time All-American in the 400 IM and 1650 free
*ASU record holder in the 400 IM with a time of 3:44.51
*Holds ASU's second fastest 200 breast (1:58.93), third fastest 1650 free time (15:01.63), third fastest 200 IM (1:47.63), seventh fastest 500 free (4:20.81), eighth fastest 1000 free (9.10.00) and seventh fastest 200 fly (1:47.79)

Nuess and Andrew Named Pac-10 Swimmers of the Month
Swimmers Caitlin Andrew and CJ Nuess were named Pac-10 Swimmers of the Month for the month of December. Both were awarded the monthly honor for their record-shattering performances at the Texas Invitational. This is the second monthly honor for both Andrew and Nuess.

Benedetti Earns Second Pac-10 Diver of the Month of the Year
Diver Micky Benedetti earned his second Pac-10 Diver of the month of the year and his fourth all time for his performance at the Ohio State Invitational. He won his second-consecutive one-meter title at the invitational.

Fastest in the Nation:
With their NCAA automatic qualifying times and ASU record-setting marks, the women's 200 free relay team of Caitlin Andrew, Jen Beckberger, Jess Perazzo and Lindsey Brown currently hold nation's top collegiate times this season. The women's 200 free relay upset last year's NCAA Champions, Arizona, to win the event with the nation's fastest time of 1:29.87.Nuess won the 400 IM at the Texas Invite with a time of 3:44.51, the nation's second-fastest time.

Rewriting the Record Books:
This season, the Sun Devils have completely altered ASU's all-time lists. Four school records have been broken. The relay team of Andrew, Beckberger, Perazzo and Brown set two new school records in the 200 free relay (1:29.87) and 400 free relay (3:15.96). After clocking in a time of 1:56.77, Andrew also set a new standard for ASU in the 200 back. Andrew also currently holds ASU's records in the 50 free (22.39), 100 free (48.50), 100 back (53.68) and 100 fly (52.02). Nuess broke the 400 IM record. The new bar is now set at 3:44.51.

Men: Ante Cvitkovic (seventh in 100 back, 48.69; fifth in 200 back, 1:46.09), Sean Boyle (ninth in 100 fly, 48.21; sixth in 200 fly, 1:47.32) John Dwelley (sixth in 100 fly, 47.97) CJ Nuess (seventh in 500 free, 4:20.81; third in 1650 free, 15:01.63; second in 200 breast, 1:58.93; eighth in 200 fly, 1:47.79; fourth in 200 IM, 1:47.63; first in 400 IM, 3:44.51).

Beijing Bound:
Arizona State junior swimmer Mohammad Madwa is the first swimmer in Kuwait History to qualify for the Olympic Games. Madwa qualified for the games after swimming in the Asian Age Group Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia. He won both the 50 and 100 free with times of 23.02 and 51.16 respectively. He finished under the Olympic B cut of 23.12 with a time of 23.02 to qualify him for the Olympic Games.

Former Sun Devil diver Joona Puhakka has also qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games to represent Finland. Coach Mark Bradshaw will be one of the team coaches for Finland.
