The Arizona State women's swimming and diving team put up a strong fight against UCLA but were unable to hand the Bruins their first loss of the season. The Sun Devils fell 160-140 to drop to 3-2 (1-1 Pac-10). Despite the loss, several Sun Devils put forth their best swims of the season.

Competing in her first event as a Sun Devil, Elina Eggers swept the diving events to earn 18 points for the Sun Devils. Eggers, a 2008 Olympic finalist, punched her ticket to the NCAA Zone Meet as she earned "A" standards on both springboards. The Swede scored 295.73 on the 1-meter and 297.08 on the 3-meter. Brittany Jumer placed second on both diving events.

Two breaststrokers earned NCAA consideration times. Sophomore Jordyn Green, who qualified for NCAA's as a freshman last season, clocked in an NCAA "B" time of 2:16.38 after placing second in the 200 breast. Fellow sophomore, Rebecca Ejdervik, earned a consideration after racing to 1:02.28 in the 100 breast, which placed her at second overall.

The sprint freestyle events proved to be successful for the Sun Devils. With junior Katie Haron taking the lead, the Sun Devils swept the 50 free. Haron clocked in a season-best 23.85 to take first, followed by classmate Samantha Caldwell (23.89), senior Ashley Evans (23.95) and freshman Shannon Landgrebe (24.06). The Sun Devils also swept the 100 free as Landgrebe earned her first collegiate event win with a 51.83 in the event. Haron followed with a time of 52.12 while Caldwell came in third at 52.17.

Landgrebe also won the 200 breast, finishing in 1:49.46, about 30 tenths faster than fellow freshman Paige Schultz, who placed second in 1:50.16. Schultz earned a win in the 500 free, touching the wall at 4:55.88. Landgrebe, Haron, Caldwell and Schultz combined at the end of the meet to take first in the 400 free relay, finishing in 3:27.44.

Both the men and the women's teams will be in action tomorrow as they host USC. The meet will begin at noon at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
