TUCSON, Ariz. - In a dual meet spread out over two days and three sessions, No. 3 Texas defeated Arizona State's 10th-ranked women's swimming and diving team 156-91 at the University of Arizona's Hillenbrand Aquatic Center, Saturday. The Sun Devils' third straight loss drops them to 5-3 on the season, while Texas improves to 8-3.

In the second and third sessions, competed Saturday, ASU managed first-place points in only three events all of which were provided by freshman ?gnes Kov?cs. In the 400-yard individual medley, Kov?cs swam her second-slowest time of the season at 4:19.88, but still managed to create almost a three-second cushion on Texas' second-place finisher Alisa Sckuknect (4:22.62).

In the 100y breaststroke, UT's Joscelin Yeo placed second in 1:03.03, but watched as Kov?cs touched the wall ahead of her in 1:02.81. ASU senior Riley Mants placed fourth in 1:05.15. Then in the 200y breast, Kov?cs and Mants finished one-two with respective times of 2:11.20 and 2:17.22.

Over in the diving well, ASU senior Natalie Burgess set a personal best in the 3-meter springboard. Placing second behind UT's Nicole Pohorenec (496.80), Burgess accumulated a championship total of 481.75, improving upon her previous best of 476.10.

ASU's next-best individual finish was provided by senior Sarah Baham, who placed third in the 100y butterfly at 57.26. Baham also led the Sun Devils in the 200y backstroke, placing fifth in 2:07.82, while senior Amanda Stanford (2:09.64) and sophomore Miranda Shald (2:10.16) finished sixth and seventh.

Texas was especially dominant in the 100y freestyle, sweeping the top eight spots. Sophomore Claire Hedenskog led the Sun Devils in ninth at 52.18, followed by Florencia Szigeti (52.44), Florence Mauro (54.23) and Sarah Fischer (54.27).

ASU's women's team returns home for another meet Sunday, hosting Northern Arizona in dual action at 1:00 p.m. from Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe.
