TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State head coach Pat Murphy and the defending Pac-10 Champions welcomed 17 newcomers to the Sun Devil baseball program on Monday, the first day of the fall semester. The group includes eight players who have previously been selected in the Major League Baseball draft. The 17 newcomers will team with 24 returnees who won the Pac-10 in 2007 and finished fifth at the College World Series.

ASU's 10 incoming freshmen include: RHP Seth Blair (Rock Falls, Ill./Rock Falls HS), RHP Kyle Brule (Chandler, Ariz./Marcos de Niza HS), C Coby Cress (Waddell, Ariz./Millenium HS), RHP Devin Fuller (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert HS), IF/C Brandon Macias (Flagstaff, Ariz./Flagstaff), OF/LHP Matt Newman (Glendale, Ariz./Brophy Prep), C Andrew Pollak (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS), RHP RJ Preach (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy Prep), OF Tillman Pugh (Oakland, Calif./De La Salle HS) and OF Andrew Workman (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton HS).

Sophomore OF Jason Kipnis (Northbrook, Ill.) joins the Sun Devils after spending last season at the University of Kentucky. Junior right hander Jason Franzblau (Louisville, Ky.) comes to ASU by way of Winthrop. Kipnis and Franzblau are joined by five student-athletes who have transferred to ASU from junior colleges: IF Marcel Champagnie (Bolton, Ont./Kaskaskia JC), RHP Reyes Dorado (Fontana, Calif./Riverside CC), IF Jake Elmore (Pleasant Grove, Ala./Wallace State), IF Mike Murphy (Templeton, Calif./Cuesta College) and RHP Stephen Sauer (Las Vegas, Nev./Western Nevada CC).

The Sun Devils will add this talented incoming class to an already excellent nucleus. ASU returns six players who earned All-Pac-10 First Team honors in 2007, led by First Team All-American 1B Brett Wallace. RHP Mike Leake and LHP Josh Satow also return to a talented pitching staff with hopes of returning to Omaha and the College World Series for the 21st time in school history.
