Women's 5K Results | Men's 8K Results

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State cross country program played host to its own meet Friday with nine women's and eight men's teams competing at Kiwanis Park in Tempe. The BYU women captured 10 of the Top 12 finished to post 15 points and win the women's 5,000m race, besting second place ASU by 60 points. The Stanford men led a Pac-10 charge with 27 points to out-score fellow conference members Arizona (44 points) and ASU (75). Individually, Lisa Pohlit was the top Sun Devil woman to cross the finish line, capturing 14th with a time of 18:52. The men were led by the 11th-place showing of Patrick Keller (24:55).

"We were okay today, but we could have been more competitive," Walt Drenth, ASU head coach, said. "We did not have our top runners competing today with our usual Top 9 men's finishers and Top 6 women not in the race. Lisa Pohlit looked nice and Megan Laid ran a good race as well. For the men, Patrick Keller and Roger Cahill did a good job for us and Roger has been battling injuries for a while now. Overall, I think the women did well and both squads can still improve more heading into the end of the year."

In the women's race, Pohlit was followed by Megan Laib (16th/13 points), Jenna Wrieden (19th/16), Cody Sohn (20th/17) and Penny Jacobson (21st/18) to round out the Sun Devil scoring. Morgan Stanton (23rd/20), Joanie Baca (34th), Kelly Burke (35th) and Alvina Begay (38th) also ran for ASU in the race, but did not figure into the team's score.

On the men's side, Keller (11th/7 points) finished ahead of Roger Cahill (24th/14), Griffin Lee (26th/16), Mike Peditto (28th/18) and Anthony Santa Cruz (33rd/20), who combined for 75 points, matching the identical total the women accumulated. Ryan Bousquet ran unattached to the team and finished the 8,000m circuit in 45th place.

The Sun Devils return to action next weekend at the NCAA Pre-national meet, held at Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind. The course both squads will run will be the same setup for the NCAA Championships five weeks later.
