Ernster, Myers and Bloomquist Earn Academic All-Americans Honors

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Junior infielder Mark Ernster and sophomore designated hitter Casey Myers were first-team GTE Academic All-American selections while junior shortstop Willie Bloomquist was a second-team pick. Arizona State had more selections (3) than any other school. It also posted more first-team picks (2).

Ernster, a '99 Pac-10 honorable mention selection, led the team with a .439 batting average this season. He notched 68 hits (fourth on the team) and stole 11 bases during the 1999 campaign. He was honored as the ASU Defensive Player of the Year.

Myers, a '98 Freshman All-American, hit .329 this season and was named Pac-10 Player of the Week for his performance in a three-game conference series with California. He had 56 hits and 51 RBI (third on team) this year.

Bloomquist, the '99 Pac-10 Player of the Year, led the team in hits (100), runs scored (95) and triples (8) this season. His .394 batting average was third on the squad while his 32 stolen bases was second.
