BACKGROUND

Finished his career as the 18th leading scorer in ASU history with 1,177 points as his four-year improvement is one of the best in recent Pac-10 history. Only one other player in ASU's top 25 chart scored less in his first year (Fat Lever averaged 3.6 points in 1978-79) as Prewitt averaged 4.1 points his freshman year and took just two three-pointers, yet in his senior year he averaged 17 points and shot 41 percent from the three-point stripe. A great post defender who was tied for second on the team in assists in his senior year and who competed through pain, as he played the final four games with a partially torn ligament in his right (shooting) elbow which he injured on Feb. 25. Voted the league’s most underrated player by 25 Pac-10 beat writers at the end of his senior year.

As a senior in 2001-2002, Prewitt earned All-Pac-10 honors as he averaged 18.9 points and 7.3 boards in Pac-10 play, which were both sixth in the league’s rankings. Led ASU in scoring in 15 of the final 21 games and showed the ability to shoot the three-point shot as he was 24-of-51 (.471) from beyond the arc in his final 14 games, including 5-of-7 at Stanford on Jan. 31 and 5-of-5 at UCLA on Feb. 16. Scored career-high 33 points vs. Washington on Feb. 9, the most points by a Sun Devil since Eddie House scored 40 against UCLA on Feb. 17, 2000, a span of the past 66 games. He also was 22-of-28 (.786) from the free throw line in the final five games and posted 12 20-point games on the year.

As a junior, Prewitt played in 27 games and started in 23 and averaged 10.1 points in 2000-2001. Played his best games against top competition, notching 23 points against Charlotte on Dec. 30, 15 points and 11 boards against MAC champion Kent State on Nov. 25 and 20 points and eight boards vs. Mountain West champion BYU on Dec. 5. He also posted 18 points at No. 12 Arizona on Jan. 23.

As a sophomore in 1999-2000, Prewitt posted double-figure scoring games in 14 of the final 22 contests and had 17 on the year. He averaged 10.1 points in the final 22 games and posted five straight double-figure scoring games in January. He had 16 points at fourth-ranked Arizona on Feb. 26 and had 15 points at No. 21 North Carolina State on Jan. 29. Best game of the year was at top-ranked Stanford on Jan. 6, as he posted 18 points and 10 rebounds (six offensive) against the Cardinal and future NBA players Jarron and Jason Collins. He also had 11 points and six boards against No. 20 Texas and Chris Mihm on Nov. 25 in the Puerto Rico Shootout.

In his freshman season of 1998-99, Prewitt played in all 30 games behind All-Pac-10 players Bobby Lazor and Mike Batiste. He started in eight contests and became the first ASU freshman since Mario Bennett in 1992 to notch a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds vs. Stephen F. Austin on Dec. 8, 1998. Shot 40-of-67 (.597) from the floor in the final 25 games. Averaged 15.3 minutes per game and shot 54.9 percent (45-of-82) from the field and started six straight games in the non-conference schedule.
