FORK FACTS
Long-armed (6-11 1/2 wingspan) and crafty southpaw does dirty work down low and carves up ways to score. Played at New Hampton (New Hampshire) Prep prior to Arizona State in 2009-10, and signed with the Sun Devils in the spring signing period. A tough, gritty player with a good motor and provides a lot of energy plays. Was one of four NCAA Division I signees for New Hampton head coach Pete Hutchins. Was the only Sun Devil to play in all 31 games last year and started in 23.

CAIN WAS ABLE
Kyle Cain finished his freshman season (2010-11) averaging 5.4 rebounds per game, the sixth-best mark by a freshman in ASU history and third-best by Sun Devil freshman in the past 19 seasons. He had 17 rebounds vs. Houston Baptist on Nov. 25, the most by a Sun Devil since Jeff Pendergraph had 19 at Oregon on Feb. 8, 2007. The 17 boards is tied for second-most by a freshman in ASU history with Mario Bennett, who had 17 vs. Oregon on Feb. 1, 1992. Ike Diogu has the ASU freshman record with 18 vs. Oregon on March 13, 2003, in the Pac-10 Tournament. Cain then posted 16 boards vs. Long Beach State in 26 minutes on Dec. 21 and had 14 boards (but zero points in a strange twist) in just 23 minutes vs. North Carolina A&T on Dec. 23. He also shot .545 from the field (78-of-143), fifth-best by a freshman in ASU history. Kyle also led the Sun Devils in rebounding 11 times on the season.

WHY DID HE SIGN WITH ASU?
"Coach Sendek was a guy I could connect to and relate with. It (recruiting visit) was very cool. I think he can help me become a better person. Once I got here I liked everything about it. The campus, the facilities. Coach Sendek told me ASU wanted me and needed me, and that was big for me because I wanted to go somewhere that needed me. Once I got home and thought about it, and compared the schools, I knew I wanted to be a Sun Devil."

PRIOR TO ASU
A native of Calumet City, Ill., Cain starred at Thornton Fractional North H.S. He helped lead the Meteors to a 17-6 record during the 2008-09 season, competing in the Illinois 4A division. He earned All-State honors from the Illinois Basketball Services (IBS) and from the Champaign News-Gazette. He played his AAU basketball with the Illinois Warriors and head coach Larry Butler.
