SUN DEVIL DATA: Officially the utility man for ASU the past two seasons, as he has started 38 games and played in all 64 in his first two seasons, averaging 28 minutes per game. A late signee in the spring of 2006 who was the first high school signee in the Herb Sendek era at ASU and ended up playing 30 minutes per game, at that time the third-highest average by a freshmen in ASU history behind only Sun Devil legends Byron Scott (32.3 minutes per game in 1979-80) and Ike Diogu (32.2 in 2002-03) and led team in steals with 30. Moves and screens well without the ball, as he was named "Best Cutter/Screener" by the staff at the 2007 postseason banquet. Came to ASU from one of the nation's best high school programs, southern California's Fairfax High School. He was team captain in senior year (2005-2006) under Harvey Kitani. Jerren is the younger brother of former Cal standout Joe Shipp and current UCLA Bruin Josh Shipp. Joe was Cal's MVP in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 and earned All-Pac-10 honors in 2002-2003 after leading the league in scoring (20.4 points per game. Steady from beyond the arc with 67 career three-pointers.
SOPHOMORE SEASON (2007-08): Steady coming off the bench in 18 games and as a starter in 16...averaged 26.3 minutes with high minutes of 42 in overtime win over Arizona and low of 11 minutes in Pac-10 Tournament loss to USC...played at least 30 minutes in 13 games...solid from the free throw line, making 81.7 percent (49-of-60)...posted 17 points and seven boards in big win over No. 17 Xavier on Dec. 15, then backed up that game with 17 points vs. Montana State on Dec. 18...had 11 points in 31 minutes in come-from-behind win at Arizona on Feb. 10...averaged 26.5 minutes out of league play and 26.1 minutes in Pac-10...averaged 6.8 points and 29 minutes in ASU's 21 wins and 4.5 points and 21.9 minutes in 13 losses.
CAN'T GET MUCH BETTER OF A START: No Sun Devil freshmen has scored more points than Jerren Shipp in the first game of an ASU career, as Shipp scored 23 against Northern Arizona on Nov. 13, 2006. Classmate Christian Polk notched 22 in that game as well, as only Jamaul Faulkner (18 vs. Kansas on Nov. 23, 1999), Eric Holloway (18 vs. U.S. International on Nov. 29, 1983) and Eddie House (17 vs. Jacksonville on Nov. 22, 1996) posted at least 17 points in a debut. Shipp hit 8-of-11 (.727) from the field in the game.
FRESHMAN SEASON (2006-07): Team's third-leading scorer (7.6 points per game) and was second in minutes per game at 30.0...led team with 30 steals...team's leading scorer in first game of the year (23 vs. Northern Arizona) and in final two games (11 at California and 13 vs. Washington in Pac-10 Tournament)...averaged 35.4 minutes, 8.4 points, shot .468 from the field and was 10-of-22 (.455) from the three-point stripe in the final seven games...averaged 28.9 minutes in Pac-10 games and started in 22 games overall...posted double digits in scoring in 10 games...played at least 30 minutes in 19 games.
FAIRFAX HIGH SCHOOL: Four-year letterman for Harvey Kitani in the Western League and led Fairfax to a 24-3 overall record in 2005-2006 and a 10-0 mark in league play...averaged 18.5 points and was named a first-team CalHiSports.com Division I selection and also earned first-team Los Angeles All-City honors as Fairfax posted a 15-game winning streak...led top-seeded Fairfax to the Championship Division semifinals and had 26 points in a loss to Westchester...earned MVP of the 21st annual Iolani Classic in Honolulu in December as Fairfax beat top-ranked Rockville Montrose Christian (Md.) in the championship game, led by his 17 points and six rebounds...also played in the 2006 Nike Extravganza XI at the Anaheim Convention Center and had 21 points as Fairfax topped Norcross (Ga.) 72-56.
