Arizona State President Dr. Lattie Coor's Statement

The indictments handed down today were deeply disturbing and disappointing to all of us at ASU. From the very first word we had of this problem some time ago, we have cooperated fully with all of the authorities and we will continue to do so.

As you learned from the FBI earlier today, no ASU personnel, past or present, have been involved in any way. Since learning of this problem we have been sensitized to the issue of gambling in society, and on university campuses across the country. It is a serious issue that is being tackled nation wide and that we have tackled with increasing fervor on this campus.

We do not indulge illegal behavior, we do not indulge gambling, and we have done and will do everything in our power to ensure that this does not occur at this university. We have developed an extensive educational awareness program for all of our student athletes. Including a course for incoming freshmen student athletes called UNI 100, where the dangers and serious consequences of gambling are discussed .

We have also committed ourselves to strengthening, in substantial ways, on campus awareness efforts to ensure that all students at ASU have the knowledge to make the right choices about the issue of gambling.
