TEMPE, Ariz. –Arizona State University head volleyball coach Jason Watson announced the addition of James Felton as the volunteer assistant coach on Monday. Felton replaces Mike Wall, who took an assistant coaching position with the U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team.
James Felton joins the Sun Devils after coaching in the area since 2007, most recently with the Arizona Sky Volleyball Club based in Phoenix for the past year.
“I am eager to work with James in his new role as our volunteer assistant coach,” head coach Jason Watson said. “He’s always been a tremendous support to me and our program. Two qualities of significant importance.”
No stranger to the grind of collegiate volleyball, he brings four years of playing experience as a starter at UC Irvine and upon graduation coached an additional four years at his alma mater.
“Coaching is hard. James understands the demands and the process we have in place here at Arizona State University,” Watson continued. “His willingness to work with our program is a great boost to me, our staff and student-athletes.”
From 2008-12 his Club Red volleyball teams won multiple medals at the USA Volleyball Junior Nationals, including two Bronze medals and a Silver. In his time at Seton Catholic in Chandler as the varsity head coach, he led the team to state championships from 2008-11 and a runner-up finish in his first season in 2007.
Felton graduated from Pasadena La Salle High School before becoming a four-year starter at outside hitter for UC Irvine from 1988-92.
