TULSA, Okla. -- The Arizona State women’s golf team will open the 2013-14 season with a third- straight appearance in the Dale McNamara Fall Preview, this time as returning champions, ranked fifth in the nation and boasting some hefty off-season accomplishments.

The 54-hole, three-day tournament will be held Sept. 9-11, with three rounds of 18 holes each day, and will host eight of the top-10 ranked teams in the country. The tournament features: Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Duke, Georgia, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Texas, Tulane, Tulsa, Vanderbilt, and USC.

“Performing under pressure is what it’s all about,” said head coach Melissa Luellen. “Consistent competition throughout the season will keep our players focused and sharp.”

When she steps onto the course at the Tulsa Country Club, site of the 1999 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship, Luellen will be bringing with her many of the same parts of last year’s well-oiled machine.

“Our qualifier was very competitive within the team,” said Luellen, “which I feel will be key to our success this season.”

The Sun Devils will be returning such power-houses to the line-up as Noemi Jimenez, Emilie Alonso, Laura Blanco, and Daniela Ordonez, but one fresh name appears on the roster.

Newcomer Monica Vaughn makes her debut on the line-up alongside four golfers who have spent the last several years bringing home championships and All-American honors to the Sun Devil Women’s Golf program.

As the Sun Devils come in to the season ranked fifth in the nation, they have very specific goals in mind.

“The team will be looking for a win and no worse than fifth,” said Luellen, “Our goal is to beat teams ranked ahead of us.”

“Tulsa is my hometown,” Luellen said, “Dale McNamara is my mother; Tulsa Country Club is a course I have personally played many rounds on. It will be fun to take the team home.”

Rounds will begin each day at 8 a.m. CT and live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com, updated every three holes.
