After an impressive first round, the Arizona State women’s golf sit in first-place with two rounds to play in the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tenn. ASU shot a combined 3-under par and are is the only team out of 15 schools to finish under-par. The Sun Devils carry a strong four-stroke lead over UCLA and Vanderbilt, who is hosting the tournament.
Leading the way for the Devils is senior Laura Blanco after shooting a 2-under par round of 70. Blanco recorded three birdies on the round, including back-to-back on holes one and two. Also joining Blanco under-par is junior Emilie Alonso, who shot a round of 71, good enough 1-under par. Alonso took a different route to get to this point, birdieing five holes, including three-straight from holes seven to nine, while also bogeying four holes. Blanco and Alonso head into the second round tied for 4th and 7th respectively.
Two more Sun Devils are tied for 14th together in senior Justine Lee and freshman Monica Vaughn. They both shot rounds of 72, even-par. Junior Noemi Jimenez, who placed second at the Dale McNamara Fall Preview, currently played herself into 36th-place at two-over par.
Individual leaders Stephanie Meadow from Alabama and Hayley Davis from Baylor shot rounds of 4-under par to lead the field into Saturday’s second round, which begins at 8:00 a.m. CT.
