TEMPE, Ariz. – No. 18 Arizona State volleyball (10-1) swept the Alabama State University Hornets (5-10) (25-18, 25-17, 25-11) to capture its second win at home Saturday afternoon.

The Sun Devils played in the second match of the day at the Arizona State University Marriott Invitational, after the Cal Poly Mustangs (5-7) held on to beat the University of Louisiana at Monroe Warhawks (4-11) in the fifth set.

After battling for the lead early in the first set, the Sun Devils finished strong, beating the Hornets 25-18.  ASU sophomore Macey Gardner led the team with five kills, while sophomore Andi Lowrance had a .750 attack percentage and three kills.  ASU was able to shut down the powerful Hornets’ attacker Rachel Smith, out-blocking the Hornets 4-0.

The Sun Devils continued their momentum into the second set, taking a commanding lead from the start.  Although the Hornets chipped away at ASU’s lead, the Sun Devils held on for the win.  Junior Nora Tuioti-Mariner led the Sun Devils with five kills.

ASU clinched its 10th sweep of the season in the final set against Alabama State.  The Sun Devils dominated the set with 10 kills and 11 blocks, compared to the Hornets’ five kills and two blocks.  Freshman BreElle Bailey, who tallied six kills for the afternoon, delivered the final kill for ASU.
