For the second consecutive game, the Sun Devil offense put on a show, this time routing the Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters, 24-6. In two fall games, the Sun Devils have racked up 42 runs.
While the offense erupted in the later innings, reigning Pac-12 Player of the Year Amber Freeman hit her first home run of the fall season - a line drive to left-center in the third inning. The following inning, after Cheyenne Coyle’s first home run, Freeman again went deep, giving her two long balls and four RBI on the day.
The Sun Devil offense put up four innings of at least four runs scored. However, the biggest outburst came in the 10th inning, when the Devils sent 15 batters to the plate, eleven of them coming in to score. During the inning, sophomore Katee Aguirre drove in four runs with a sacrifice fly in her first at-bat of the inning and a three-run homer in her second.
Mackenzie Popescue started the game, tossing the first four innings and striking out three. Jenna Makis followed, pitching the next three innings and getting five groundball outs. Dallas Escobedo finished out the final three innings, looking strong once again, facing ten batters with nine of them being retired via strikeout.
The Sun Devils once again showcased their prolific offensive prowess on Sunday, something the team looks to continue next week when they take on Mesa Community College on Wednesday, October 16 at 7 p.m. at Farrington Stadium and again on Friday, October 18 in the annual alumni game at 7 p.m.
