SUN DEVIL DIGITS: The Sun Devil men's hoops team (22-13; 9-9/tied for sixth in Pac-12), averaging 91.3 points in its 3-0 start, travels to UNLV for a Tuesday, Nov. 19, tilt at 7 p.m. PT/8 p.m. MT tip on CBSSportsNet (860 AM). Since Jahii Carson put on a Sparky unie for the first time ASU is 25-13 and averaging 73.2 ppg. In the 38 games prior to Jahii, ASU was 13-25 and averaged 61.7 points per game. The Sun Devils have scored at least 40 in every half this year and will meet UNLV with the series even at two wins.
MARRIOTT POINTS: Jahii Carson averaged 21.9 points in the 15 games away from home in 2012-13, as ASU played 11 road games and four neutral site games. He averaged 38.5 minutes in those games and shot .523 from the field (124-of-237). The Mesa, Ariz., native had ten 20+ point games away from home, including three of the top Sun Devil freshman scoring games in history with 34 vs. Stanford in the Pac-12 Tournament (Mar. 13), 32 at Washington (Feb. 2) and 30 vs. No. 14 Creighton in Las Vegas (Nov. 24).
VEGAS: ASU played four high-level games in Las Vegas last year, as it beat Arkansas but lost to Creighton in the Las Vegas Invitational at the Orleans Hotel in November of 2012 and then beat Stanford but lost to UCLA in the Pac-12 Tournament in March held at the MGM. Jahii Carson was on fire in those four games. He averaged 26 points, 38.5 minutes, 4.3 rebounds and five assists. He shot .578 from the floor (37-of-64), 5-of-9 (.556) from the three-point stripe and 25-of-30 (.833) from the free throw line. ASU averaged 80 points in those four games.
JORDAN BLOCK-CHYNSKI: Jordan Bachynski became ASU's career blocked shots leader against Idaho State on Nov. 15 when he notched six blocks, giving him 194 in his career, topping the Sun Devil career record of 191 held by Mario Bennett (1991-95). Next up is USC's Sam Clancy who had 196 from 1998-2002 and stands fifth on the Pac-12 career list.

6. 194 – Jordan Bachynski (Arizona State), ’10-present
HERB WESTHEAD: Runnin' Devils had 90 in back-to-back tilts -- 96 vs. UMBC on Nov. 8 and 90 vs. Miami (OH) on Nov. 12 -- for first time since February 17 (104 vs. UCLA) and 19 (93 vs. USC) of 2000 when Eddie House was doing his thing (along with radio analyst Kyle Dodd).
The unsung presence early for Arizona State has been Chance Murray. Sun Devils at UNLV Tuesday 10 PM ET on @CBSSportsNet.— Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) November 18, 2013
MANY GREAT NAMES DIDN'T DO THIS: Jahii Carson averaged 18.5 points and 5.1 assists last season, the first freshman to do that since Chris McGuthrie of Mount St. Mary's notched the feat in 1992-93 (19.8/.5.1).
DON'T BLAME US: Scoring in D-I men's basketball was at its lowest since 1951-52 last year (67.5 ppg). Meanwhile in Tempe, ASU went from averaging 61.0 ppg. in 2011-12 to 71.8 ppg. in 2012-13.
ASU 88, IDAHO STATE 60 (11/15/13): A game that was tied at 15 saw ASU end the half on a 26-10 run and eventually stretch the lead to 36 (73-37)...Jahii Carson had 19, Jermaine Marshall 17 and Jordan Bachynski added 10 points, 10 boards and six boards...ASU made 12-of-29 (.414) from three-point stripe and go 30 points from its bench.
ASU 90, MIAMI (OH) 54 (11/12/13): ASU hit 16 threes, tied for fourth in Sun Devil history, in 96-91 win over Miami (OH) on Nov. 12...first time since 1999-2000 ASU dropped 90 in back-to-back games...+21 rebounding (48-27) third best by a Coach Sendek team at ASU and best since 23 vs. Central Connecticut State on Dec. 29, 2008...36-point win biggest since Dec. 12, 2009, 42-point win over Delaware State (76-34)...ASU had 18-point contributions from Jermaine Marshall and Jahii Carson (matched career high with eight assists) and 16 more from Jordan Bachynski...Bachynski had his second-straight double-double for first time in career...26 assists second-only in the Herb Sendek-era to 29 vs. USF on Nov. 20, 2009.
ASU 96, UMBC 91 (11/8/13): ASU topped UMBC 96-61 on Nov. 8, the earliest start date in ASU history...five Sun Devils posted double-digits, including 19 each from Jermaine Marshall and Jahii Carson...Jordan Bachynski had 12 points, three blocks and matched career-high with 15 boards...96 points marked fifth-most points by ASU under Coach Sendek...ASU's 44 free throw attempts was its most since it shot 47 vs. Western Mich on Dec. 30, 2003...Sun Devil first-year players saw 97 minutes.
OVERLOOKED STAT ON JAHII: Jahii Carson's 488 field goal attempts last year was the most by a Sun Devil since Eddie House jacked up 623 in 1999-2000 (also by design). Jahii’s 488 shots were top 30 for field goal attempts in NCAA and most by a freshman. When you break it down, only four of the top 30 shot leaders were more efficient from field from Jahii. He made .473 of his shots (231-of-488). Only Virginia Tech’s Erick Green (.475), BYU’s Tyler Haws (.479), Creighton’s Doug McDermott (.548) and Nate Wolters of South Dakota State (.485) shot a better percentage from the field. Then digest this...you can probably count the number of easy rebound putbacks on one hand for Jahii (he had 16 offensive rebounds), and he averaged 5.1 assists per game.
FIVE RETURNERS: They say a huge key in college hoops is to have a great point guard and solid big man, so ASU has that covered. How good was JAHII CARSON at the end of 2012-13? In the final six games he had heads turning with these digits: 22.5 ppg., 6.0 rpg., 5.0 apg., .551 from the field, .500 from three and .800 from free throw line.He is one three All-Pac-12 first-team players returning (Dwight Powell/Stanford and Spencer Dinwiddie/CU)...JORDAN BACHYNSKI set Pac-12 and ASU season blocks record with 120 last year and needs just 95 blocks to break the Pac-12 career mark set by Anthony Cook (UA/1985-89). After averaging 4.6 points in his first two seasons, he averaged 9.8 points in 2012-13...no Pac-12 player made more threes than JON GILLING last year (84), fourth-most by a Sun Devil. He averaged 9.7 points in his sophomore season...sophomore ERIC JACOBSEN played in 32 games last year and weighs a solid 250...junior BO BARNES made 57 three-pointers at Hawaii in 2010-11 before sitting out in 2011-12. The 57 three-pointers is a Hawaii freshman record.
MARSHALL, MARSHALL, MARSHALL: ASU welcomes a proven scorer in 2013-14, as graduate transfer JERMAINE MARSHALL joined the program in August after playing three years at Penn State. Last year he averaged 15.3 points (sixth in Big Ten), 4.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists and shot .759 from the free throw line (107-of-141). Marshall in his career has 934 career points, 118 three pointers and has knocked down 196-of-261 (.751) free throws. He posted nine 20-point games at PSU, and his top three scoring scoring games were against ranked teams.
