Angelica Perez
Senior
2nd year on Spirit Squad
Major in Communications with a Minor in Media Analysis

Q:How did you get into cheer?
A: I used to play tennis growing up and my mom would play right after me and I would sit and wait for her and just look through the chain link fence and these cheerleaders practicing. I didn't even know what it was called, but I wanted to do it. At first my mom said no, because she thought I would quit tennis if I did it, but eventually she signed me up when I was eight and I've been cheering ever since then.

Q:Do you miss tennis?
A:Yeah, I do it was something my mom did and I was just following in her footsteps, but I'm also glad I got into cheer.

Q:What's your favorite memory from Spirit Squad?
A:Leading the crowd in my first game, stepping onto the field and pumping up the crowd and knowing that all my hard work had paid off.

Q:What's your favorite ASU tradition?
A:My favorite is probably the third down, because the whole crowd gets involved with us and the band playing out the beat, that's definitely my favorite one.

Q:What's the game you're most looking forward to this season?
A: I'm really looking forward to family weekend. I'm from southern California and we're playing USC. I have a lot of friends that go there, and hearing that they lost their first game, that's motivating. I think I'll end up with the bragging rights.

Q:What's an accomplishment you are most proud of outside of spirit squad?
A:The accomplishment I'm most proud of is making it this far in college. I had my older brother to look up to. He went all four years, but my sisters in between kind of did their own thing. I was kind of nervous going out of state, but now that I'm in my senior year it's just a really big accomplishment for me and my family.

Q:What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
A:I am 17 years apart from my older brother. No one ever really knows I have a brother, like he could have been my dad if he had me really young! That's something really cool that I like to share with people.

Q:Are you and your brother close?
A:Yeah we're really close. He lives in Santa Barbara and we talk as much as we can, and he just had a kid, its really exciting.

Q:What do plan on doing after ASU?
A:My dream job would be to do special events for an entertainment company. Right now, I'm working for Live Nation, so hopefully that opens doors but my goal is to venture back to LA and work for AEG or Live Nation and do private events for entertainment companies.

Q:Do you prefer texting or phone calls?
A:I guess it just depends on the situation. I usually prefer texting but sometimes a text message just goes the wrong way, it really just depends on what I'm trying to relate to the person.
