SUN DEVIL DIGITS: The Sun Devil men's hoops team, averaging 80.1 points in its 9-2 start, hosts Texas Tech on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 4:30 on the Pac-12 Network. After playing its first nine games in 24 days and completing a 10-game/29-day stretch to begin the season, ASU is in the middle of a college football-like schedule with three straight Saturday afternoon games before Pac-12 play begins Thursday, Jan. 2 vs. Washington. ASU's next four games are at home, where it is 22-4 in the past two seasons including wins over 2013 NCAA Tournament teams Colorado, UCLA, Marquette and California.
HEY CAN PLAY!: Michigan State transfer Brandan Kearney can finally play after transferring last winter to Arizona State. He will have this year and next to compete in the maroon and gold. CLICK HERE for some information on him.
VS. TEXAS TECH: Former Kentucky staff members Herb Sendek and Tubby Smith say hello Saturday, as Texas Tech and ASU meet for the second straight year. Last year's 77-62 Sun Devil Dec. 22 win in Lubbock was the first meeting since an 81-75 Sun Devil win on Dec. 8, 1988, also in Lubbock. In front of family who flew in from Denmark for a few weeks, Jonathan Gilling posted a career-high six three-pointers (five in the first half) and had 18 points in the win. ASU had 14 three-pointers, tied for second-most in school history in a road game. ASU records show the Red Raiders lead the series 22-20, but the Sun Devils have won the past five. The last Red Raider win vs. the Sun Devils was an 85-68 victory on Jan. 12, 1957, in Lubbock.
THIS IS A GOOD THING: In the first three seasons of his career (89 games), Jordan Bachynski averaged 6.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.03 blocks. This season he is at 12.9 ppg., 10.0 rpg and 4.5 bpg. Jordan has a double-double in eight games, after entering the season with five in his first three seasons. The eight double-doubles was tied for most in the nation at the beginning of the week. He also needs 48 blocks to set the Pac-12 career mark held by Anthony Cook of Arizona (278 from 1985-89).
JORDAN'S FIRST THREE SEASONS COMPARED TO THIS YEAR
2010-13 (89 GAMES): .570 FG%; 6.6 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 2.0 BPG
2013-14 (11 GAMES): .659 FG%, 12.9 PPG; 10.0 RPG; 4.5 BPG

3. 253 – Taj Gibson (USC), ’06-09
4. 231 – Jordan Bachynski (Arizona State), ’10-present
5 DAYS BEFORE GAME: The Sun Devils are 20-10 (.667) in the past seven years when Herb Sendek's staff has at least five full days in between games, and seven of the wins have been against teams that would make the NCAA Tournament in that season. Most notable recently was an 87-80 win over NCAA-bubble worthy Arizona in the 2011-12 regular season finale on March 4. Wins in 2009-10 included MWC Tournament champion San Diego State (five-game win streak at the time), a home win over Pac-10 Tournament champ and No. 24 Washington and a win at Arizona. In 2008-09 the five-day layoff wins included ASU's first NCAA Tournament win since 2003 (over Temple), a win over Arizona (entered the game on seven-game win streak) and a neutral site win over a 10-0 BYU team that had a guy named Jimmer. In 2007-08, the wins included ASU's first win in Tucson in 13 seasons, an overtime win at California in which ASU was playing as a ranked team for the first time in 13 seasons and a 22-point win over #17 Xavier in December of 2007 that is ASU's largest victory margin over a ranked opponent.
SOLID NOTE: As of Wednesday, Jahii Carson was the only player in college hoops averaging 19.9 points, five assists and shooting 50 percent from the floor. Two other players are super close, as Keifer Sykes of Wisconsin-Green Bay is at 21.6/4.7/.489 and Youngstown State's Kendrick Perry is at 21.3/4.8/.524.
MARSHALL, MARSHALL, MARSHALL: Later in notes you will read about Jermaine Marshall's career stats and some great scoring numbers, but don't sleep on this note as competition begins to heat up. In two high-intensity wins where every bucket was needed (UNLV and Marquette), he was 15-of-28 (.535) from the floor, 6-of-13 (.462) from the three-point stripe and posted 21 at UNLV and 20 vs. Marquette. Want more? In the second-half of those nail biters he was 10-of-14 (.714) from floor. He has 1,044 career points in 101 career games.
HE'S A MAN, HE DROPPED 40: Jahii Carson became the fourth Sun Devil to drop 40 (seven times) when he went 16-of-25 from the floor and had 26 second-half points in the Nov. 19 86-80 win at UNLV. Eddie House (four times), Paul Williams (a second-round NBA pick of the Phoenix Suns in 1983) and The Beard did the same in a Sun Devil uniform.
