TUCSON – Despite a game-high 20 points from Jahii Carson, Arizona State was unable to overcome top-ranked Arizona as the Wildcats downed the Sun Devils 91-68 on Thursday night.

Bo Barnes (13 points) and Shaquille McKissic (10 points) also scored in double figures for the short-handed Sun Devils (13-5, 2-3 Pac-12), who were playing without their second-leading scorer, and top 3-point shooter Jermaine Marshall (groin injury).

Nick Johnson (17 points) and Aaron Gordon (16 points) paced the Wildcats (18-0, 5-0), who shot 56 percent for the game and forced 18 Sun Devil turnovers.

After falling behind by 21 points, the Sun Devils used a 14-6 run to get within 13 late in the first half.

The Wildcats opened the second half with a 12-3 run to extend their lead to 23 points with 14:28 remaining. ASU could get no closer than 18 the rest of the way.

Although they shot 34 percent for the game, the Sun Devils were on point from the free throw line (25-33/76 percent) and from beyond the arc (7-14/50 percent). Barnes led ASU with a trio of triples on his way to a season high in scoring.

Jordan Bachynski, ASU’s third-leading scorer, was limited to only 23 minutes after picking up three fouls in the first half. He ended with three points and six rebounds while also adding three blocks to his NCAA-leading total of 78 coming into the game.

The Sun Devils return to action next Thursday (7 p.m. MT) when they host Utah at Wells Fargo Arena. The game will be televised by Pac-12 Networks.
