WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Arizona State University men's basketball senior center Jordan Bachynski has been named Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for play from Feb. 3-9, the Conference office announced today.
The senior from Calgary, Canada, averaged 21.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 8.0 blocks in two home victories for the Sun Devils. For the week, he shot 15-of-20 (.750) from the field, and 13-of-16 (.813) from the free-throw line. His 16 total blocks on the weekend made him the Pac-12 career record holder with 288 blocks over the course of his career. In the 86-82 overtime win over Oregon State, Bachynski recorded 17 points and 15 rebounds along with seven blocks. He then posted a career-high 26 points in the 74-72 win over Oregon, adding nine blocks and nine rebounds. Bachynski leads the Conference in blocked shots, averaging 4.5 per game, and is second in the Pac-12 in rebounding with 9.1 boards per game.
The selection marks the first-career weekly award for Bachynski. It is the 34th player of the week selection for Arizona State all-time.
The Sun Devils remain at home this week, hosting rival Arizona in a Territorial Cup matchup on Friday, Feb. 14. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.
