The Arizona State men’s golf team rounded out Monday’s first round of The Prestige from La Quinta, Calif., in eighth, with Max Rottluff leading the way tied as he is in seventh place at 2-under par. ASU shot a combined 6-over par, but Stanford holds a commanding lead at 15-under.
Rottluff can make a move to the top in Tuesday’s second round as he sits only one shot out of third, and four off the lead. He recorded four birdies on the day, which only Trey Ka’ahanui for ASU bested, with five. Ka’ahanui finished at 4-over through the first 18.
Mathias Schjoeberg shot an even round of 71 and is tied for 15th, just ahead of Austin Quick’s round of 1-over to put him in a tie for 26th.
