TEMPE, Ariz. – Patrick Suddes, former Director of Player Personnel at the University of Texas, has been named the Assistant Athletics Director for Recruiting at Arizona State University, head coach Todd Graham announced Tuesday.
“I’m excited to come to Arizona State and work under a great teacher and leader like coach Graham,” Suddes said. “I have been fortunate to work for two future hall of fame coaches in Nick Saban and Mack Brown, and it is clear coach Graham is in the same mold as them. My professional background began in the Southeast and the state of Texas, and to be able to combine that knowledge with the abundance of talent that lies in Arizona and throughout the West Coast is a perfect fit for me. ASU, with its great campus, loyal fan base and dedicated staff, offers endless opportunities and I’m looking forward to helping the program grow in all capacities. I am fully on board the Boom Bus and ready to throw up my first Pitchfork.”
Suddes served as the Director of Player Personnel at the University of Texas under head coach Mack Brown during the 2013 season and previously spent six seasons at the University of Alabama under head coach Nick Saban.
“Patrick has solidified himself as a real asset in this business and has worked for some of the most respected coaches and administrators at two of the most notable programs in the country,” coach Graham said. “He knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level and his wealth of experience in all aspects of football operations will help further our goal of bringing a championship to Tempe.”
While at Texas, Suddes’ duties included organizing weekly recruiting meetings, developing monthly recruiting initiatives, coordinating and monitoring all recruiting events and day-to-day activities, overseeing summer camps and coaching clinics, and creating a marketing and strategic plan that included social media expansion and mobile app development.
"Patrick is a real star in the recruiting business,” coach Brown said. “He's unbelievably organized, thorough and tireless. He did a tremendous job at Alabama, reshaped our recruiting efforts at Texas and will be a great asset to Todd and his staff at Arizona State."
Suddes was part of Saban’s staff at his alma mater, Alabama, from 2007-13, and spent his last five seasons in Tuscaloosa as Associate Director of Football Operations for a program that won three national championships in four seasons. His role consisted of supervising and planning the annual coaching clinic, coordinating team travel, overseeing youth and high school camps, team practice organization, overseeing the annual team banquet, and the organization and evaluation of the walk-on program.
Prior to his time in football operations, Suddes served one year as Associate Director of Recruiting and Video Services at Alabama, where he oversaw all day-to-day recruiting operations, collected and prepared recruiting film for coaches evaluation, maintained the team recruiting board, helped organize and plan all recruiting events such as junior day and prospect visits, and managed all organization of the summer camps.
He spent two seasons under Saban with the Miami Dolphins, including 2005 as a Defensive Assistant and 2006 as an Offensive Assistant. He was responsible for quality control, including breakdown and scouting reports of opponents, organizing game plans and self-scouting, in both positions.
A 2005 graduate of Alabama, Suddes began his career in 2004 as a recruiting intern at LSU where he assisted in day-to-day recruiting operations and quality control on offense and defense.
