TEMPE, Ariz.—With the regular season coming to a close, the No. 22 Arizona State gymnastics team returns to Wells Fargo Arena, Friday night, for the final home meet of the season – and for some, the final home meet of their career.
The Gym Devils’ annual Green Meet, promoting sustainability awareness, will also serve as the final home meet for senior Sammie Seaman and head coach John Spini, the longest tenured coach in Sun Devil Athletics’ history.
In Spini’s final season Arizona State has surpassed preseason expectations. Picked to finish eighth in the Pac-12, the Gym Devils subsequently went on to beat Washington, California, and rival Arizona, all teams picked to finish above the Sun Devils in the conference.
On the year the Sun Devils have recorded team scores of 196.000 and above in three separate meets, the most for the team since 2006. Arizona State’s score of 196.200 against BYU was the 29th-best score in school history, the first dent in record books since 2008.
The meet, which begins at 7 p.m. PT, will be livestreamed through the Pac-12.com.
