The first day from the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships from Minnesota Aquatic Center came to a close Thursday evening, and for Arizona State, diver Hailey Casper earned five points thanks to a 12th place finish in the 1-meter diving finals.
After placing 15th in the preliminaries with a score of 283.05 good enough to qualify her for finals, Casper notched a score of 296.00, earning her a 12th place finish, three spots ahead of her preliminary finish of 12th place.
Tristin Baxter finished 20th in the 500 free preliminaries, but barely missed out on a qualifying time for the finals by four positions. Coming into Thursday’s event she had the 25th fastest time in the 500 free. She swam the event in 4:41.03 though, less than .6 of a second away from reaching the qualifying time. Baxter will be back in the pool on Saturday to swim the 1650 free, an event she finished 20th fastest in this season.
