BERKELEY, Calif.—The 22nd-ranked Arizona State women’s gymnastics team (8-6, 3-3 Pac-12) opens postseason competition at the 2014 Pac-12 Championships on March 22 in Berkeley, Calif. The Sun Devils were named the seventh seed and will compete in the second session beginning at 6:45 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
Last meet against Northern Illinois, in senior Sammie Seaman and head coach John Spini’s final home appearance in Wells Fargo Arena, the Gym Devils recorded their fourth team score above 196 this season with a score of 196.175. Arizona State also scored above a 196 in meets against California, Arizona and BYU.
The Sun Devils saw success on floor scoring a season-high tying 49.300 score in the event. ASU recorded five scores of 9.800-plus. Junior Natasha Sundby hit Arizona State’s first score of 9.950 since Mary Atkinson earned a 9.950 on bars in 2010.
The Gym Devils will compete with Arizona, California and Washington in the second session. While the team earned a seventh seed, Arizona State defeated Arizona, California and Washington in head-to-head competition this season. Utah, Stanford, UCLA and Oregon State will compete in the first session of competition beginning at 1 p.m. PT.
Arizona State will begin the second session on beam and continue on to floor, vault and bars. The 2014 Pac-12 Championships will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
