Against The Best
This is the first team in school history to win a trio of three-game series’ over top-15 teams and earlier in the season became the first ASU team to win consecutive Pac-12 road series’ over top-15 teams. The Sun Devils won their third three-game series over a ranked team for the first time since 2011, the third time in head coach Tim Esmay’s tenure and the eighth time in program annals.

Series wins over top-15 teams
at No. 4 Oregon State (3/21-3/23)
at No. 15 UCLA (3/28-3/30)
vs No. 9 Oregon (5/9-5/11)

The Sun Devils are 11-8 against ranked teams this season, including 9-6 against teams in the top 15, and are 7-5 against the top four teams in the conference (excluding ASU). ASU went 5-3 against the past two defending national champions (2-1 over UCLA, 3-2 over Arzona). Head coach Tim Esmay’s 52 wins over ranked opponents in his first five seasons is the most of any head coach in school history and six more than his predecessor, Pat Murphy.

ASU is the only team this season to beat No. 2 Oregon State in back-to-back games. The Sun Devils won 2-of-3 games over then-No. 4 Oregon State in Corvallis March 21-23 to win its first series over OSU in Corvallis since 2007 and the third road series over a top-five team in school history, including the second under head coach Tim Esmay.

Pac-12 Pitcher Of The Week

·     Junior right-hander Darin Gillies earned Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honors after he did not allow an earned run on just two hits in six innings to lead ASU to a series-clinching win over Oregon May 11

·     He secured his first win since Feb. 27 as he struck out three and did not allow an extra-base hit to improve to 2-4 on the season

·     It marked his third start of the season in which he did not concede an earned run across six or more innings

·   This is Gillies’ first career Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week nod and the 65th overall for the Sun Devils. He is the second Sun Devil to earn a weekly award this season.
