TEMPE, Ariz.—Arizona State gymnastics coach René Lyst announces the hire of former Southern Utah assistant coach Jeff Hunt as an assistant coach on the Sun Devil gymnastics staff.
“I am so excited that Jeff is joining the Sun Devil gymnastics staff,” said Lyst. “One of Jeff’s strongest attributes is his recruiting. He has a thorough knowledge of the gyms and student-athletes on the west coast. He has built great relationships with the club gyms because of his gymnastics knowledge, passion, and caring personality.”
Hunt comes to Tempe from Southern Utah where he spent eight seasons with the Thunderbirds, three years as a full-time assistant coach. While at Southern Utah, Hunt oversaw bars and helped the Thunderbirds record the highest season-average event score in school history during the 2008 season.
In addition to gymnastics, Hunt has an affinity for strength training and conditioning.
“His training knowledge both in gymnastics and in strength and conditioning will enable us to keep pushing the team to reach their individual and collective potential,” said Lyst.
Hunt graduated from Southern Utah in 2009 and was promoted to assistant coach after spending five seasons as a student assistant. Interestingly, Hunt initially came to Southern Utah as a track and field student-athlete.
