TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State University soccer players McKenzie Berryhill and Cali Farquharson are among 26 players who will participate in the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team training camp taking place June 7-14 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.

The roster, announced by head coach Steve Swanson, is made up of current collegiate players or players who played their senior seasons last fall. ASU and UCLA are the only schools in the country that will be represented by multiple players who will still be active with their respective teams this fall.

Berryhill and Farquharson, who will both be juniors this season, have had a big impact in ASU’s success each of the last two seasons.

“We are very excited that McKenzie and Cali have been invited to the U.S. U23 training camp. It is the first time since I’ve been here that we have had two players get invited to the camp,” said ASU head coach Kevin Boyd. “Both of them played extremely well last season and we think they will go in and compete quite well. It’s a great opportunity for them and one that is well deserved. We look forward to see how they perform there and what may happen after the camp as well.”

A starter in 34 of 38 career games, Berryhill earned second-team All-Pac-12 honors and third-team NSCAA All-Pacific Region recognition following a 2013 season in which she helped the Sun Devils post their best goals against average since 2009. Chosen by the coaching staff as the team’s Defensive MVP last season, Berryhill was named to the CS360 Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll for her play in ASU’s contests at No. 11 Cal and its 1-0 upset win at No. 2 Stanford in which the Sun Devils snapped the Cardinal’s 73-match home unbeaten streak and its 44-match winning streak in conference games.

Farquharson was also named second-team All-Pac-12 last season in addition to earning second-team NSCAA All-Pacific Region distinction after she concluded her sophomore season as ASU’s leader in goals (10) and points (22) for the second consecutive season. Four of her goals in 2013 were game winners, including double-overtime gems in ASU’s wins over Illinois and Utah. The goal against Utah moved Farquharson into a tie for ninth place on ASU’s all-time list with 20 goals. She also became the first Sun Devil to account for 10 or more goals in back-to-back seasons since 2000-01. Farquharson started off last season by scoring at least one goal in ASU’s first five games to set the school record for most consecutive goals scoring a goal (eight – last three games of 2012 and first five games of 2013).

Berryhill and Farquharson represent the second and third Sun Devil players to be invited to the camp in the last three years joining 2013 graduate Devin Marshall, who participated in the camp in 2012.
