TEMPE, Ariz.—The Arizona State volleyball program and head coach Jason Watson announced the 2014 schedule on Monday, which features 13 matches televised on the Pac-12 Networks.

“Each year, the combined experience of the coaches and athletes in the Pac-12 makes for a wonderfully competitive conference season,” Watson said. “The addition of TV makes the access to high-level college volleyball available to so many more volleyball fans. It’s exciting to be a part of a conference that’s at the forefront of TV exposure.”

The slate also includes matches against 14 opponents who competed in the 2013 NCAA Championships, and an exhibition match against Canada’s Mount Royal University.

ASU will open the non-conference slate with four tournaments, two on the road (Manoa, Hawaii, and Morehead, Ky.) and two at home inside Wells Fargo Arena.

“Each weekend of our non-conference schedule is going to be a challenge,” Watson said. “I like the challenge, and I like the opportunity it gives us to make our case for NCAA Tournament selection in December.”

Fans in Tempe will have their first chance to see the 2014 Sun Devils on Thursday, Sept. 4 as ASU faces Mount Royal University in an exhibition match.

“It’s a unique chance to get to compete against a foreign team,” Watson added. “I feel it’s something that gives our student-athletes a unique competitive experience.”

ASU will then host their first of two home tournaments, the Residence Inn Challenge, Sept. 5-7, with Idaho State, UAB, and Iowa in the competition. ASU will have back-to-back matches on Sept. 5 against UAB (2 p.m.) and Idaho State (7 p.m.) before facing Iowa on Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. The match against Iowa is ASU’s lone non-conference match that will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.

The second home tournament, the Residence Inn Invitational, is set for Sept. 19-20, where the Sun Devils will see Pepperdine, North Carolina Central, and Colorado State. ASU will face Colorado State on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m., and then see North Carolina Central on Sept. 20 at 12 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. nightcap against Pepperdine.

ASU will open their 2014 schedule, in Manoa, Hawaii, August 29-31 for the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational. The Sun Devils will take on San Diego State (Aug. 29), Hawaii (Aug. 30), and Ohio (Aug. 31).

The Sun Devils will be on the road again, traveling to Morehead, Ky., for the Comfort Inn and Suites Invitational, and will take on Louisville (Sept. 12), Northern Illinois (Sept. 12), and host Morehead State (Sept. 13).

The Pac-12 Conference slate will begin with back-to-back road trips, opening with a Wednesday contest at Arizona in Tucson on Sept. 24. The Sun Devils will be in Los Angeles on Friday, Sept. 20 for a contest at USC before swinging through Colorado and Utah on October 3 and 5, respectively.

ASU’s Pac-12 home opener is set for Oct. 10 against California, which is also Camper Night, while Club Night is set for the Oct. 17th Pac-12 televised contest against Washington.

The Sun Devils will close out the regular season at home this year, taking on UCLA on Wednesday, Nov. 26 before clashing with Arizona on Friday, November 28.

Seven of ASU’s 10 road conference matches will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.

Last season, the Sun Devils made their second-consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, finishing the year with a 19-14 overall record. Macey Gardner was named to the All-Pac-12 Team, while BreElle Bailey was tabbed to the All-Freshman Team.
