TEMPE, Ariz.- Ralph Rosso, who served as Western Michigan University’s assistant coach for one season, was named assistant gymnastics coach at Arizona State, head gymnastics coach René Lyst announced Thursday.

Prior to his position at WMU, Rosso served as the manager of the women’s gymnastics team at the University of Arkansas where he worked alongside Lyst while completing a master’s degree.

“We are excited to announce Ralph as our assistant coach,” said Lyst. “He has a strong background in the sport and has been a part of collegiate programs at all levels including a National Championship. Having previously worked with Ralph at Arkansas, I know he will be an immediate asset to the program.”

While at Arkansas, Rosso was responsible for equipment management, as well as spotting during skills and drills. He also devoted time coaching numerous gymnastics camps and club gyms during his time on staff. In 2012, the Razorbacks placed sixth in the country, and in 2013 the team placed 10th at the NCAA Championships, producing five All-Americans and an SEC gymnast of the year.

During his time on the men’s gymnastics team at Michigan, Rosso lettered from 2006-09 and helped the Wolverines win the Big Ten title in 2009. He competed in four Big Ten Championships and four NCAA Championships. In 2007, Rosso was a still rings event finalist at the NCAA Championship where he placed ninth. He advanced to the individual finals at the Big 10 Championships twice in 2007, on pommel horse and still rings and again in 2009, on floor exercise and still rings.

While coaching last season at WMU, the team had a 5-14 record and achieved a season-high score of 195.075 against UIC back in March.
