Velasquez Returns to Arizona State After UFC Heavyweight Title

Arizona State: Earned Earned his first All-America honor by placing fifth at the 2005 NCAA Championships...also captured his first Pac-10 title and was named the 2005 Pac-10 Conference Wrestler of the Year...won 21 in a row before falling in the semifinals of the NCAA Championships. 2004-05: Placed fifth at the NCAA Championships to finish season with All-America honors...also won the Pac-10 meet in his first attempt...selected as the 2005 Pac-10 Conference Wrestler of the Year...won 15 bouts in a row prior to the post season...made it 18 straight with four wins at the conference meet...won his first three matches at the national event to run streak to 21 in a row...during that span, won 12 with bonus points, including nine by major decision, two by technical fall and one by fall...upset eventual national runner-up Cole Konrad (Minnesota), 4-3, in a home dual...opened season with title at the Fullerton Open...placed third at the Las Vegas Invite...also took second at Reno with lone loss coming to No. 1 Steve Mocco of Oklahoma State...went 16-1 in dual matches...was a perfect 7-0 against Pac-10 foes during the regular season... 2003-04: Went 14-5 overall and 5-1 in duals...competed at the Reno Tournament of the Champions going 5-0 to win the meet...captured the title with a fall in the finals...was 4-2 at the Las Vegas Invite placing fourth...went 1-4 against Top-20 opponents.

Iowa Central CC: Competed one season and won the NJCAA National Championship at heavyweight...team also won the NJCAA title in the same year...earned his associates degree before transferring to ASU. High School: A graduate of Kofa High School in Yuma, Ariz....went 110-10 in his four years of competition...won state titles in 2000 and 2001...four-time conference champion...earned All-America honors four times at Junior Nationals...won the Western Region championship twice...lettered in wrestling four times and football three times...captained both teams as a senior.
