At Sky Harbor International Airport this morning, dozens of Sun Devil athletes and staff teamed up with organizations in the Phoenix area and United Airlines for an event called Fantasy Flight.
The event took over a hundred children who’d never been on a plane onto a real aircraft that then flew around the greater Phoenix area on a journey to the “North Pole.” It then landed in a different terminal that was decorated top to bottom with Christmas trees, fake snow, presents, goodies, and elf helpers. Santa, Mrs. Clause, Rudolph, and their Sun Devil companions walked to the plane as it was pulling in to the terminal to greet all of the children.
The kids were then taken into “Santa’s workshop” and given a bag of toys and clothes, books, and sugary snacks as well as breakfast and a chance to sit on Santa’s lap or make crafts and ornaments.
This is the tenth consecutive year that Sun Devil Athletics has helped with the event, and are, as always, happy to represent the maroon and gold by giving back this holiday season.
