PALOS VERDES, Calif.—The seventh-ranked Arizona State women’s golf team heads into the final round of competition at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in seventh place. The Sun Devils shot a 294 in the second round for a two-day total of 26-over 594 (300-294).
Junior Emilie Alonso led the Sun Devils on the second day, carding four birdies on the back nine to shoot a 1-under 70 to hold a two-round total of 7-over 149 (79-70). Alonso is tied for 29th along with teammate Noemi Jimenez, who shot a 4-over 75 in the second round.
Freshman Monica Vaughn is the highest placing golfer for ASU heading into the final round. Vaughn shot even-par 71, tying her for 24th overall.
After a solid first round, senior Justine Lee struggled to find her rhythm on the second day. Lee, who shot even-par 71 yesterday, carded seven bogeys and two double-bogeys to shoot a 10-over 81, tying her for 49th with a two-round total of 10-over 152 (71-81).
After two rounds of play, USC sits comfortably atop the leader board with a two-day total of 1-under 567.
The final round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge continues tomorrow at the Palos Verdes Golf Club with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. (PT). Live scoring for the tournament is available at www.golfstat.com.
