USTFCCCA Poll

TEMPE, Ariz.—The Arizona State women’s cross country team is back in the USTFCCCA national poll for the first time since the 2010 season.

The Sun Devils are ranked at No. 26 following their stellar 14th-place finish at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Oct. 19

"We're pleased to back in the national rankings but the team understands that there is much room for improvement,” women’s cross country coach Ryan Cole said. “So we're going to keep working hard. We're excited to be improving, and at the end of the day, the final rankings are really the only ones that matter."

Junior Shelby Houlihan led the way with a fourth-place finish in the women’s 6k race with a time of 19:52, improving upon her previous 6k mark this season by nearly 38 seconds (20:35.45 at the Griak Invitational on Sept. 29).

Sophomore Adriana Olivas ran the race of her life, crossing the finish line in 20:26 for 33rd place and shattering her season best in the 6k, which was originally 21:45.30, set at the Griak Invitational.

Freshman Chiara Warner, who joined the program from Townsend, Mont., raced for the first time as a Sun Devil on Saturday, and finished with a respectable mark of 21:01 for 86th place in a field of 288 runners.

Freshman Kala Stone and junior Shaina Corbin also scored for the squad, crossing the finish line in 21:37 and 21:40, respectively, for women’s cross country head coach Ryan Cole’s Sun Devils.

"Without graduating anyone from this year's team, the girls grasp that this is only the beginning of what is possible for them collectively, not only for the rest of this season, but for years to come as ASU re-emerges as one of the predominant women's cross country programs in the country," Cole added.

Up next, the cross country teams are set to compete at the 2013 Pac-12 Cross Country Championships, in Louisville, Colo., on Saturday, Nov. 2.
