John Sanders
Position: Coordinator of Football Operations
Experience: 2 Years
John Sanders joined the Sun Devils in the spring of 2012 as the Coordinator of Football Operations and helps oversee the day-to-day operations of the football program.

Sanders came to ASU after a successful career as the head coach at Scottsdale Saguaro High School, where he compiled a 62-7 overall record at the helm and led the team to five state championships in six seasons.

He took over as the head coach of the Sabercats in 2007 after spending five years as the defensive coordinator. In his first season at the helm, he led the team to a 14-0 record and a state championship. In 2007, Saguaro led the nation in yards per carry (12.8) and sacks (90) and was No. 2 in total offense with more than 7,000 yards. The Sabercats led all Arizona HS divisions in yards per game (542 yds/game) in 2010 and were No. 5 in the nation in total offense, once again eclipsing 7,000 yards. In 2011, Saguaro ranked second in the nation in scoring (53.4 ppg). The Sabercats were No. 1 in Arizona in all HS divisions in both rushing offense and total offense three times ('07, '10, '11) during Sanders' time has head coach.

In 2006, Sanders' defense led the nation with 16 interceptions behind former Sun Devil safety Max Tabach. Under Sanders' tutelage, Saguaro's defense twice ranked first in Arizona Division 4A in fewest points allowed (`04, `06).

Sanders' coaching career spans more than 30 years, beginning as the receivers coach at Boise State from 1976-79 as well as stints at the University of San Diego and the University of Colorado. He was also the Director of Player Personnel and an assistant coach with the USFL's L.A. Express and was the tight ends coach for the Houston Oilers in 1985.

Sanders began coaching at Arizona high schools in 1999 at Highland High School before coaching defensive backs at Desert Ridge in 2002 prior to his arrival at Saguaro.

He is a graduate of the University of Southern Utah where he was a two-year captain, and an All-Region and All-Conference safety, as well as an academic All-American.

He has two children, John and Samantha. John was a quarterback at the University of Arizona, and Samantha is married to Colby Davis. Samantha and Colby have two children: a son, Archer and a daughter, Sawyer.
