TEMPE, Ariz.-  The Sun Devil football team, under the direction of head coach Todd Graham, has returned to its fabled preseason paradise, Camp Tontozona, August 12-16.

Fans who wish to attend this year’s Maroon & Gold practice at Camp Tontozona should be aware of a few travel, traffic, and parking details for 2014.

Portions of State Route 260 (SR260) are under construction. Additionally, the annual Payson Pro-Rodeo is being held in Payson from Aug. 14-16. The Payson Rodeo Parade will begin in the city of Payson at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16.  Please take this into consideration and allow for extra driving time when traveling to Camp Tontozona.

The Camp Tontozona Maroon & Gold practice will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16 at 10 a.m. The Sun Devil football team will take the field at approximately 9:30 a.m., and will begin practicing at 10 a.m. ASU is expecting a very large crowd for the scrimmage this year. Fans are encouraged to allow for extra travel and parking time due to the large crowd that is expected.

Due to the possibility of inclement mountain weather, fans should be prepared for rain towards the end of scrimmage.

Parking for the general public for Saturday, Aug. 16 will be in a closed section on the eastbound side of SR260 near Camp Tontozona Road.  Please follow the message boards, speed limit, and Event Parking signs on SR260 to the designated event parking areas.

  • Coming from the West, once drivers pass Kohl’s Ranch they should merge to the right and proceed through the traffic restrictions to the designated event parking area.

  • Coming from the East, drivers will be asked to turn left onto Spring Creek Rd. and proceed to the designated parking area.

Parking attendants will be at both entrance locations to direct guests to the correct parking area.

Parking for disabled guests: Those displaying a plate or placard will be directed to park along Camp Tontozona Road.

There will be a limited number of shuttle carts for limited mobility and disabled guests who may need assistance. Due to the expected large crowd and high volume of traffic, the shuttle service could potentially have a long wait. Fans are encouraged to walk into Camp Tontozona from the parking areas.

ASU encourages fans to car pool and share rides to Camp Tontozona.

Camp Tontozona provides the Sun Devils with a unique setting for concentration and preparation for the new season ahead. The camp began hosting Arizona State footballs preseason in 1960 under the direction of head coach Frank Kush and continued through 2007. The Sun Devils returned to Camp Tontozona in 2012.  Set within the cool mountain country of Payson, AZ, the camp borders the Tonto National Forest, which provides the first two syllables of Tontozona. The state of Arizona offers the last pair.
